The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is commemorating 75 years of facilitating homeownership for people in rural and Tribal communities.
Secretary Vilsack emphasized USDA's unwavering commitment to ensuring access to safe and affordable housing, especially in underserved areas.
The department highlights the success of its Rural Development homeownership programs. Since 1949, these programs have assisted nearly 5 million individuals and families in becoming homeowners.
This includes over 2.2 million through direct home loans, 455,000 through home repair loans and grants, and over 56,000 families who built homes through the Mutual Self-Help program.
The administration has furthered this legacy by investing over $43 billion, supporting nearly 266,000 families in rural and Tribal areas.
The USDA also offers resources for potential homebuyers. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's Home Loan Toolkit and USDA's Single Family Housing Self-Assessment site provide valuable guidance.
USDA's Rural Development programs offer crucial support for rural Americans. Programs like the Single Family Housing Direct Home Loan Program offer low interest rates and flexible down payments, making homeownership a reality for lower-income families.
Additionally, the Home Repair Loan and Grant Program helps existing homeowners improve their dwellings.
USDA's commitment extends to fostering economic opportunities in rural areas. They provide loans and grants for infrastructure development, business growth, and community facilities like schools and healthcare centers.
