AFBF endorses USDA's new farm loan reforms

AFBF endorses USDA's new farm loan reforms

By Jamie Martin

American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) President Zippy Duvall today voiced approval for the USDA’s proposed changes to the Farm Service Agency’s (FSA) Farm Loan Programs, which are designed to better support new and beginning farmers. These changes come after a significant discussion between the AFBF and FSA Administrator Zach Ducheneaux, focusing on the critical role of USDA loans in supporting the next generation of farmers.

The proposed modifications aim to introduce more flexibility into the loan process, providing relief to farm families amid current economic hardships.

Duvall expressed optimism about the reforms, noting that they represent common-sense adjustments that could alleviate some of the financial pressures faced by farmers.

“Administrator Ducheneaux and his team have taken a good, hard look at their lending programs,” Duvall stated, emphasizing the thoughtful approach taken to reform these crucial financial supports.

The AFBF is prepared to closely examine the details of these changes and plans to offer feedback to ensure that the reforms meet the needs of farm and ranch families, enabling them to continue their farming operations.

This endorsement from the AFBF highlights the ongoing efforts to tailor USDA’s financial assistance programs to the evolving needs of America’s agricultural community, ensuring they have the resources necessary to thrive.
