Banks Hardwoods, established in 1985 and a prominent exporter since ten years ago, has been named the 2024 Agriculture Exporter of the Year by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD).

This prestigious recognition highlights the company’s success in the hardwood industry, both locally and internationally.

MDARD Director Tim Boring praised Banks Hardwoods for their efforts to extend their market reach and enhance international partnerships.

"Michigan forests are diverse and plentiful allowing for quality timber to be used to benefit the hardwoods industry within the state both locally and internationally," Boring noted.

The company's export achievements have not only contributed significantly to their business growth but have also created 14 new jobs.

With over 65% of their lumber sourced from Michigan, Banks Hardwoods supplies a diverse range of high-quality hardwood to 14 countries, utilized in products such as furniture, millwork, and cabinetry.

Brian Farrier, Export Sales Manager at Banks Hardwoods, expressed gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing the global and local economic benefits of their operations.

"Working with global partners not only allows us to understand and address varied consumer needs to expand our reach as a company, but also promotes economic growth both locally in Michigan and on a national scale," Farrier stated.

The company also focuses on educating their international customers through the Banks School, which offers modules on U.S. hardwood standards, helping to standardize knowledge and expectations across the global industry.

Banks Hardwoods effectively leverages state and federal resources to boost their international presence, participating in global trade shows and enhancing their marketing strategies through Michigan’s economic development programs.

This award, determined by a panel including representatives from the Van Andel Global Trade Center and Michigan State University's International Business Center, among others, recognizes Banks Hardwoods for their export growth, innovation, and ongoing efforts to access new markets.

Through their exemplary performance, Banks Hardwoods reinforces its position in the international market and significantly contributes to the advancement of Michigan’s agricultural export capabilities.
