The Illinois Small Business Development Center (SBDC) International Trade Center (ITC) at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is exploring new collaboration opportunities with the National Corn-to-Ethanol Research Center (NCERC). This effort is focused on strengthening global market access for agribusinesses, biofuel innovators, and agricultural technology companies.
In early May, representatives from both organizations met to discuss shared goals. The discussion highlighted their mutual interest in encouraging innovation, supporting commercialization, and improving global competitiveness in Illinois’ growing bioeconomy sector.
As part of its 2026 strategy, the ITC is focusing on agriculture and food-related industries. The center aims to build partnerships with organizations that are promoting research, sustainability, and industrial progress across Southwestern Illinois and beyond.
“NCERC plays a critical role in supporting research and innovation in the biofuels and bioproducts industry,” said Schneidine Louis, MIB, CGBP, Director of the Illinois SBDC International Trade Center at SIUE. “Through this collaboration, we hope to help connect companies and technologies within this ecosystem to international market opportunities, export resources and global industry networks.”
The NCERC also expressed its support for this potential partnership and its benefits for businesses and startups.
“NCERC will be delighted to assist the Illinois SBDC International Trade Center at SIUE in their mission to serve the small businesses and the startup ecosystem. The unique facilities and knowledge-driven capabilities of the NCERC is setup to derisk and validate Ag-derived bioproducts geared towards exports and international markets,” said Praveen V. Vadlani, PhD, MBA, NCERC Executive Director.
Global demand for renewable energy and sustainable fuel solutions is increasing rapidly. Many countries are investing in cleaner energy systems and biofuel infrastructure, creating strong opportunities for Illinois-based companies in ethanol production, manufacturing, and agricultural processing.
The ITC provides free and confidential export support services to small and medium-sized businesses in the region. These include export counseling, market research, trade data analysis, and guidance on export regulations.
NCERC is well known for its expertise in biofuels research and its ability to help bring new technologies to market. Both organizations plan to continue discussions to explore future initiatives that support innovation, economic growth, and international business success.
