BioLumic is transforming corn seed production through its pioneering UV light technology. In collaboration with seed industry leaders such as Beck’s Hybrids and Peterson Farms Seed, BioLumic aims to enhance the productivity of both inbred and hybrid corn lines.
This collaboration follows impressive gains observed in 2023 field trials, where treated seeds showed significant improvements in yield and plant vigor.
The company’s Genetic Expression Trait™ technology utilizes ultraviolet light to activate natural genetic expressions in corn, enhancing yield, quality, and plant defense traits without resorting to genetic modification or chemicals.
This innovative approach promises to streamline the seed development process, bypassing lengthy regulatory hurdles typically associated with genetically modified organisms (GMOs).
BioLumic’s UV technology has demonstrated a notable yield increase of over 7.3% in trial phases, with expectations of achieving double-digit gains in commercial applications.
The technology not only improves germination rates but also bolsters seedling vigor, contributing to an average 16% increase in root biomass.
Looking forward, BioLumic is set to commercialize its Genetic Expression Traits for the 2025 planting season, in collaboration with Gro Alliance and other partners.
The technology’s scalability and effectiveness offer a significant breakthrough in addressing inbreeding depression challenges, ultimately leading to robust, high-yielding corn crops.
