The North Dakota Department of Agriculture (NDDA) has announced a special opportunity for Bismarck Public Schools' fourth grade classrooms. Students are invited to participate in a Farm to School video essay contest.
This contest gives young learners a chance to express what the Farm to School program means to them. Students will create short video essays that reflect their understanding and experiences with local food and farming.
The NDDA is producing a Farm to School video this summer to showcase how students across the state connect with agriculture through school meals and educational programs. The classroom with the winning submission will receive a summer farm field trip and be featured in the final video.
“The goal of Farm to School is to connect students with local food and give them opportunities to learn where their food comes from,” said Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring. “The video essay contest will provide greater understanding of what the program means to students and gives them a chance to visit a local farm to see how it operates.”
Submissions will be reviewed by representatives from the NDDA, the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction, and Bismarck Public Schools local foods coordinators.
To participate, classrooms should visit www.ndda.nd.gov/F2SVideoContest for full contest guidelines and instructions. The deadline for submitting video essays is May 2, 2025.
Questions about the contest may be directed to NDDA Local Foods Marketing Specialist Jenna Nieters at 701-328-2659 or jnieters@nd.gov.
This contest encourages students to engage with their food system and highlights the importance of connecting education to agriculture.
