Brewing Ideas for Better Farm Health

Brewing Ideas for Better Farm Health

By Andi Anderson

Brewing Connections is a community event designed to bring people together for informal conversations, helpful discussions and shared learning.

Hosted by OSU Extension, the program provides open office hours where individuals can stop in, enjoy a cup of coffee and talk through questions, ideas or concerns. The event repeats on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Cross Street Deli in Summerfield.

The purpose of Brewing Connections is to create a welcoming space where community members feel comfortable discussing topics related to agriculture, personal wellbeing and seasonal challenges.

Instead of a formal class, the gathering encourages casual conversations that allow participants to guide discussions in directions most helpful to them. This format supports connection, collaboration and community learning.

Each month features specific themes, and for this session, the highlighted topics are mindfulness on the farm and winter safety tips.

Mindfulness is important for farmers because it encourages calm thinking, reduces stress and helps individuals stay focused during demanding tasks. The event will explore simple techniques that can be used daily, even during busy seasons, to promote mental wellbeing.

Winter safety is also a key topic, as cold weather brings unique risks for farmers and rural communities.

Participants will learn practical reminders for staying safe, such as preparing equipment, protecting livestock, avoiding slips and managing outdoor work in low temperatures. These discussions help everyone stay alert and prepared as winter conditions develop.

Christine Gelley, the event contact, will be available to answer questions and offer guidance. She can be reached through the provided email for anyone wanting more details about the program or upcoming sessions.

Brewing Connections aims to strengthen community relationships by offering a dependable place for conversation and support. Whether someone seeks advice, wants to share an idea or simply needs a friendly space to talk, the event welcomes all participants. Through informal discussions and shared experiences, the program promotes wellbeing, safety and community engagement.
