Carol Randall has been named the recipient of the 2025 Weed Control Partner Award by Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring in recognition of her dedication to noxious weed control and biological management strategies.
Randall worked for many years as a weed biological control specialist with the United States Forest Service (USFS) before retiring at the end of 2024. She co-authored numerous technical documents on the biology and biological control of noxious weeds, contributing valuable research to the field.
“Carol has assisted the North Dakota Department of Agriculture in many ways, including acquiring and distributing several novel agents in the state and helping to monitor newly established biocontrol sites,” Goehring stated. “She is always kind and welcoming to questions and has an exceptional wealth of knowledge pertaining to biological control and USFS funding.”
Randall played a key role in securing USFS grant funds for weed management efforts in North Dakota. Her expertise helped the North Dakota Department of Agriculture (NDDA) apply for and utilize funding effectively, supporting innovative control strategies for invasive weed species.
The award was presented to Randall by Deputy Commissioner Tom Bodine during the 2025 Commissioner’s Noxious Weed Forum in Bismarck. This recognition highlights her dedication to weed management and her contributions to improving agricultural sustainability in the region.
Through her work, Randall has enhanced biological weed control efforts, supported research initiatives, and strengthened funding access, making a lasting impact on North Dakota’s agricultural landscape. Her expertise continues to inspire advancements in weed management strategies for future generations.
