Cattle Producers Invited to Beef Quality Assurance Training

North Dakota State University Extension is hosting a Beef Quality Assurance training for cattle producers in Logan County focused on improving beef safety, animal care, and production practices. The free event takes place on Monday, February 23, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. CST at Napoleon Livestock in Napoleon, North Dakota.

The training highlights daily management practices that influence the safety, wholesomeness, and quality of beef and beef products. The session is open to all cattle operators and provides practical guidance to support responsible livestock management and long-term operation success.

During the event, trainers will explain how science, research, and education help build consumer confidence in beef. Topics include the benefits of the Beef Quality Assurance program, proper animal handling, stewardship, and common-sense husbandry techniques. Participants also learn about biosecurity practices, methods to reduce stress in cattle, and the safe use of animal health products.

Recordkeeping is also covered as an essential part of beef quality and food safety programs. Proper records help track treatments, support compliance, and protect farm reputation. The training also explains how careful management supports both animal well-being and consumer trust.

The session will lead by experienced livestock educators, including Lisa Pederson, Livestock Specialist with the Central Grasslands Research Extension Center; Lacey Quail, Extension Livestock Management Specialist with the North Central Research Extension Center; Rachel Gibbs, Ruminant Systems Management Specialist with the Hettinger Research Extension Center; and Josh Becker, Agriculture and Natural Resources Agent with NDSU Extension in Logan County.

There is no cost to attend the training. An optional Beef Quality Assurance certification is available for a $20 fee per operation. Snacks and refreshments are provided, and producers are encouraged to RSVP in advance.
