Consumers Energy Supports MSU Engineering with Major Investment

Consumers Energy Supports MSU Engineering with Major Investment

By Andi Anderson

Michigan State University (MSU) and Consumers Energy recently celebrated a continued partnership that supports the university’s College of Engineering.

This collaboration provides financial support aimed at helping the next generation of engineers and STEM professionals thrive.

The celebration event is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Monday, April 7, at Wilson Hall on MSU’s East Lansing campus. Wilson Hall is the home of the CoRe Experience, a residential program for first- and second-year engineering students. The event will feature campus tours and interviews with MSU and Consumers Energy officials.

Key speakers will include MSU President Kevin M. Guskiewicz, Consumers Energy Vice President of Natural Gas Operations Chris Fultz, and representatives from MSU’s College of Engineering. Students from the program will also share how this support impacts their academic experience.

The financial contribution from Consumers Energy will enhance STEM education by providing more resources, learning opportunities, and hands-on experiences for students. The goal is to strengthen Michigan’s talent pipeline by encouraging young people to pursue careers in engineering and remain in the state after graduation.

Consumers Energy has partnered with MSU’s College of Engineering since 2009. Their efforts have focused on improving academic resources and supporting career development through internships, mentoring, and innovation-based learning.

Consumers Energy is Michigan’s largest energy provider, serving 6.8 million residents across all 68 counties in the Lower Peninsula. Its long-standing commitment to education reflects a broader mission to build stronger communities through energy, innovation, and learning.

Students, educators, and industry leaders agree that partnerships like this play a key role in building a skilled workforce ready to meet tomorrow’s challenges. By investing in STEM education today, Consumers Energy and MSU are helping shape a brighter future for Michigan.
