For the week ending November 3, 2024, the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service reported 5.7 days suitable for fieldwork across major agricultural regions. Topsoil moisture levels were rated at 41% very short, 38% short, 21% adequate, and 0% surplus. Subsoil moisture ratings reflected similar trends with 41% very short, 39% short, 20% adequate, and no surplus moisture.
Field Crops Report
Corn harvest has made significant progress, reaching 90% completion. This figure surpasses last year’s 82% and the five-year average of 78%. Soybean harvest is also nearly complete at 98%, aligning closely with last year’s 94% and the five-year average of 96%.
Winter wheat conditions were varied, with 10% rated very poor, 25% poor, 28% fair, 32% good, and 5% excellent. Winter wheat emergence was at 83%, trailing behind last year’s 96% and a five-year average of 94%. Sorghum harvest is on pace, reaching 81%, near last year’s and the average rate of 78%.
Pasture and Range Report
Pasture and range conditions have shown some challenges, with ratings indicating 34% very poor, 26% poor, 26% fair, 13% good, and only 1% excellent.
