The National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) Board of Directors meeting focused on key industry issues. Dairy farmers expressed confidence in receiving a fairer federal milk pricing system soon. They highlighted their efforts to combat the H5N1 avian influenza threat through biosecurity and testing.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's plan for modernizing Federal Milk Marketing Orders is expected in July. NMPF has advocated for updated regulations reflecting the current industry. Board members reviewed policy developments, including the 2024 Farm Bill progress and H5N1 updates.
The meeting coincided with the NMPF Young Cooperators' fly-in event, where young farmers advocated for the industry. They urged policymakers to pass the Farm Bill, expand U.S. dairy product market access, and ensure clear milk labeling standards.
The NMPF Board also explored improvements to the Cooperatives Working Together (CWT) program, a self-help initiative for dairy farmers. They considered expanding CWT's export assistance program and established five goals for the program's future.
Finally, the Board elected three new members representing different dairy producer organizations.
