The University of Nebraska Lincoln’s Center for Agricultural Profitability and Nebraska Extension has appointed David Haupt as a financial analyst to assist farmers and ranchers. In this role, he will provide free, one-on-one consultations to help producers manage their financial challenges more effectively.
Haupt will work directly with farmers to review their financial situations. He will guide them in managing existing debt, building strong budgets, and understanding their overall financial health. In addition, he will explain the financial risks and benefits linked to different farm management decisions, helping producers make informed choices.
With more than 45 years of experience in agricultural lending, Haupt brings deep knowledge to this position. His career includes 20 years in commercial banking and over 25 years with Farm Credit Services of America. His expertise will support producers facing financial pressures and planning for future growth.
“David has spent decades working directly with agricultural borrowers,” said Jay Parsons, director of the Center for Agricultural Profitability. “His deep understanding of farm finances makes him a great resource for producers who need to evaluate their options or strengthen their business plans”.
Haupt grew up on a farm in South Dakota and has lived in Nebraska since 1984. He is currently based in Kearney and works from the Nebraska Extension office in Buffalo County.
“I’ve spent my entire career in agricultural lending,” Haupt said. “I’m eager to help Nebraska producers think through their options and make the best possible decisions for their operations.”
In addition to individual consultations, Haupt will contribute to educational programs. These include workshops, online courses, and publications focused on farm and ranch management and financial planning.
