Empower your mental health - join free COMET training

By Scout Nelson

This May, in observance of Mental Health Awareness Month, the University of Minnesota Extension together with the Minnesota Department of Health and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture are excited to offer the COMET (Changing Our Mental and Emotional Trajectory) training. This initiative is part of a statewide effort to enhance community mental health support.

Scheduled for Friday, May 10, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Central Time, the training will be held at the MSU Mankato Strategic Partnership Center Hubbard Building located at 424 North Riverfront Drive, Mankato, MN 56001. It will also be available virtually, ensuring broad accessibility.

COMET is a two-hour session designed to equip individuals with simple yet effective tools to assist others who may be facing mental health challenges. The training emphasizes the importance of early intervention and equips participants with a straightforward seven-question guide to facilitate supportive, impactful conversations. The goal is to help individuals alter their mental health trajectory towards wellness before a crisis emerges.

The training is open to everyone and is completely free, but registration is required due to limited space. This opportunity is perfect for anyone looking to be more prepared and proactive in supporting others’ mental health needs.

By participating in COMET training, attendees will not only gain valuable skills but also become empowered to take meaningful action in their communities, particularly in supporting mental health before it reaches a crisis point.
