Equine Camp Sparks Young Minds in Minnesota

Equine Camp Sparks Young Minds in Minnesota

By Scout Nelson

The “Equine Animal Science Day” camp provides an exciting opportunity for young learners to explore the fascinating world of horses. Organized in collaboration with the Bell Museum and Minnesota 4-H, this one-day program focuses on interactive, hands-on learning for students in grades 3 to 5. The camp is designed to introduce participants to essential equine science concepts in an engaging and safe environment.

During the camp, participants will learn about horse care, grooming, behavior, and basic handling techniques. With the guidance of experienced instructors, children will get the chance to observe horses closely and interact with them in controlled settings. These activities aim to build confidence and help students develop a deeper understanding of animal care and agricultural practices.

The camp encourages curiosity and provides a welcoming space for beginners as well as those who already love horses. No previous experience is required, making it accessible to all interested students. Through fun and structured sessions, children will gain practical knowledge while enjoying memorable experiences with animals.

Students are required to bring their own nut-free lunch and a water bottle, while snacks will be provided during the day. The event will take place on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. CDT at the University Teaching and Outreach Center, located at 2900 University Ave., Crookston, Minnesota.

The camp fee is $25, and the registration process involves filling out an online form and completing the payment as instructed. It is important to note that registration is only confirmed after payment is received. The organizers are committed to inclusivity and equal participation. Accommodation requests for individuals with disabilities should be made at least two weeks in advance. The program will be conducted in English, with interpreter services available upon prior request.

For more information, participants can contact Mindy Grant at grant552@umn.edu. This camp is a wonderful opportunity for children to learn, grow, and connect with animals in a meaningful way.
