Ohio State Entomology is hosting several engaging events and educational programs across Ohio this spring. These events offer opportunities for students, researchers, and families to connect with the world of insects and science.
The season begins with a symposium on April 15, 2025, during the Entomological Society of America’s North Central Branch conference in Nebraska. Organized by Dr. Fred Hickmann and Prof. Andy Michel, the session titled Pasteur’s Quadrant explores the link between basic research and innovation in pest management.
Students are invited to “Fuel for Finals” on April 17, with food and fun at the Columbus and Wooster campuses.
Visit the BUGmobile on April 19 at the Grange Insurance Audubon Center in Columbus, or join the United Titanium Bug Zoo at Kenyon College’s Earth Day event the same day.
The Beekeeping Academy Certificate Program runs online from March 30–May 31, with a $150 fee. It includes bee biology, pollination, and weekly quizzes. A field day follow-up happens on May 17 at the Rothenbuhler Bee Lab for an additional $60.
On April 30, Entomology teams up with CFAES for “We Grow Scientists,” part of the COSI Science Festival, held at Waterman Agricultural and Natural Resources Laboratory. It’s a free event full of hands-on STEAM activities.
More outreach follows at the Massillon Public Library on May 3, and at the Big Science Celebration at COSI, the same day, with over 100 hands-on exhibits.
Finally, on June 8, the Bug Zoo will visit the University of Akron Field Station for “Spring into STEM.”
These events are open to all and designed to promote science learning in a fun and interactive way.
