Farm Safety Camp for Youth Training

Farm Safety Camp for Youth Training

By Scout Nelson

North Dakota State University is hosting the Farm Safety Camp - East, a three-day educational program focused on teaching youth essential agricultural safety skills. The event takes place from May 27 to May 29, 2026, at Lake Region State College in Devils Lake, North Dakota.

This camp is designed to help young participants learn safe farming practices in a hands-on environment. Students are trained in key areas such as safe tractor operation, livestock handling, and farm machinery use. The program also includes a tractor driving obstacle course, helping participants build confidence and practical skills.

In addition to machinery training, participants learn important topics such as rules of the road, equipment maintenance, agricultural youth laws, and farm first aid. The camp also provides official Stop the Bleed certification, which prepares youth to respond to emergency situations on the farm.

One of the main benefits of the program is certification. Participants who successfully complete the camp receive official certification to operate tractors over 20 horsepower and certain farm equipment when working for non-family employers. This certification meets U.S. Department of Labor safety requirements for youth aged 14 to 15. Participants who are 13 years old can complete the training and receive certification once they turn 14.

The camp fee is $300 and includes lodging, meals, and personal protective equipment that participants can keep for future use. Enrollment is limited to 16 participants to ensure a safe and focused learning experience.

Parents are required to provide important details during registration, including emergency contacts, medical information, and helmet size for safety equipment. A non-refundable deposit is required to secure a spot, and refund policies apply based on cancellation dates.
