The University of Nebraska–Lincoln will host an engaging seminar titled “Farmers as Science Advocates: Cases for Creative Engagement” as part of the Agronomy and Horticulture Seminar Series. The session will be held on October 23, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Keim Hall, Room 150, located at 1825 N 38th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska, with an option to join virtually through Zoom.
The event will feature Rachael Whitehair, Director of Innovation and Stewardship at the Nebraska Corn Board, who will share insights into how farmers across the nation are becoming active advocates for science and research. Her presentation will explore creative engagement models used by commodity organizations to foster innovation, promote sustainability, and empower producers to take part in scientific communication.
This seminar aims to showcase the vital role of farmers as contributors to agricultural advancement. Through collaborative projects and on-farm research, producers are increasingly helping shape the future of agriculture by implementing data-driven practices and sharing results that enhance soil health, productivity, and environmental stewardship.
Participants—including students, faculty, industry professionals, and the public—will gain a deeper understanding of how farmers’ involvement in research and outreach strengthens trust between the agriculture community and consumers. The discussion will also emphasize the importance of merging practical experience with academic research to create sustainable solutions for global food challenges.
Open to alumni, students, and community members, this event reflects the University’s commitment to supporting knowledge exchange and celebrating farmer leadership in agricultural science. Those unable to attend in person can join virtually at https://go.unl.edu/agrohortseminar for an inspiring conversation on the future of farm-led innovation.
