Four Districts Received Training Funds

Four Districts Received Training Funds

By Scout Nelson

The South Dakota Department of Education awarded Workforce Education Grants to four school districts. These grants support stronger career and technical education programs and help students build skills for future success.

The Workforce Education Grant program was designed to encourage innovation in middle and high school career education. It highlights districts that work closely with colleges, technical schools, and industry partners. These partnerships help schools create programs that match current and future workforce needs.

“CTE programs create authentic experiences for our students,” said Secretary of Education Dr. Graves. “Securing grants, like the Workforce Education Grant, strengthens school districts' CTE programs by ensuring students are performing essential hands-on learning using state-of-the-art equipment.”

Career and technical education programs help students gain practical knowledge, job skills, and real-world experience. These opportunities prepare students for college, technical training, or direct entry into the workforce.

Frederick Area School District was awarded $55,142. The funding will help purchase equipment for its newly expanded Agriculture program. Students will have better access to updated learning tools and modern agriculture training.

Hill City School District was awarded $18,229. The grant will modernize its Manufacturing program through the purchase of industry-grade equipment. This support helps students learn valuable production skills.

Rapid City Area Schools was awarded $223,830. The funding will help meet industry standards for the Culinary Arts lab and support expanded course offerings. Students will gain stronger food service and kitchen training opportunities.

Spearfish School District was awarded $43,175. The grant will enhance its Manufacturing program with industry-grade equipment. This investment supports hands-on learning and technical career preparation.

These grants show the value of investing in student success. Updated programs and equipment help students explore careers, gain confidence, and prepare for future jobs in growing industries. South Dakota continues to support education that connects classroom learning with workforce needs.
