Free virtual seminar on forage quality

Free virtual seminar on forage quality

By Andi Anderson

The Indiana Forage Council and Purdue University Extension are hosting a virtual seminar titled “Hey There, Hay Here” to provide essential insights on forage quality and hay testing for livestock producers. This free event will take place on Nov. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. EST, and is open to the public.

Forage testing plays a crucial role in livestock nutrition by providing detailed analysis values that help producers create balanced rations. This analysis, in collaboration with a nutritionist, helps maintain livestock health and body condition across various life stages, ensuring animals receive the nutrients they need from the hay they consume.

The seminar will include insights into how hay analysis benefits farmers. For example, knowing the nutritional content of hay allows producers to understand any dietary gaps and determine the required supplementation.

This approach helps optimize livestock diets and ultimately supports healthier animals and more efficient farm operations.

The seminar can be accessed virtually, and those unable to connect from home have the option to attend at designated viewing locations across Indiana. Information about these viewing sites is available on the Purdue Extension website.

No registration is needed to join this event. This seminar offers an excellent opportunity for livestock farmers to gain valuable knowledge on forage quality and improve their feed management strategies for better livestock health.
