Governor Larry Rhoden marked National Agriculture Day by signing six new agriculture-related bills into law. These bills aim to strengthen the state's farming and ranching industry, supporting producers across South Dakota.
“Ag is King in South Dakota, and as a lifelong West River Rancher, I am deeply committed to ensuring that it thrives,” said Governor Larry Rhoden. “These bills are an important show of support for the farmers, rancher, and producers who work hard to feed our communities. As long as I am Governor, I will keep South Dakota ag Open for Opportunity!”
The newly signed bills address various aspects of the agricultural sector:
- SB 14 updates regulations on agricultural production facilities and introduces penalties.
- SB 120 adds a poultry producer to the Animal Industry Board.
- HB 1021 revises fees for concentrated animal feeding operations and introduces an application fee.
- HB 1083 adjusts requirements for agricultural processor liens.
- HB 1116 removes a reporting requirement for industrial hemp.
- HB 1143 mandates adjustments to certain agricultural land values.
Governor Rhoden has approved 142 bills this legislative session while vetoing one. These legislative efforts reinforce South Dakota’s commitment to agriculture, ensuring long-term growth and sustainability for the industry.
