Grazing Tech Demonstrated at ENREEC Field Day

Grazing Tech Demonstrated at ENREEC Field Day

By Scout Nelson

Producers interested in smarter cattle and pasture management are invited to attend the Technology in Action: Improving Pasture and Cattle Management field day on June 27, 2025. Hosted at the Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension, and Education Center (ENREEC) near Mead, Nebraska, the event runs from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM CT.

The free, day-long program offers hands-on demonstrations and expert sessions on emerging technologies that help producers increase pasture productivity and simplify cattle handling.

Attendees will witness virtual fencing in action with live cow/calf pairs. This technology allows for more intensive grazing and improved pasture utilization—without building physical fences.

Another highlight is a field comparison of remote water monitoring systems. Participants will evaluate battery performance, signal strength, and alert systems to decide which best fits their operations.

A simple smartphone-based forage estimator will also be demonstrated. This tool supports better decisions on how many cattle to graze and when to rotate them, particularly in cereal rye and winter cereal systems.

Indoor sessions will dig deeper into the practical side of virtual fencing. Experts will explain pricing models, compare different systems, and share the latest research on using virtual fencing to manage multiple herds and strip-graze annual forages.

“These sessions show how new tools are helping producers gain more control with less effort.”

This event offers producers the opportunity to explore cutting-edge technology that enhances efficiency, saves time, and improves overall cattle management. Attendees will leave with practical knowledge to apply on their own operations, supporting more sustainable and productive grazing systems.
