Hands On Manure Training Offered

Hands On Manure Training Offered

By Scout Nelson

Nebraska Extension is organizing a series of Land Application Training workshops to help producers better understand manure management and its role in improving soil health and crop production. These workshops focus on practical, hands-on learning that helps participants apply manure management concepts directly on the farm.

One scheduled session will take place on February 25, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Custer County Fairgrounds located in Broken Bow, Nebraska. The training is open to a wide audience, including alumni, members of the public, and undergraduate students interested in learning more about sustainable agriculture practices.

Manure is often seen as a byproduct of livestock production, but it also serves as a valuable fertilizer. When managed correctly, it can improve soil structure, increase crop yields, and reduce fertilizer costs for producers. The workshops aim to show farmers how to gain the most value from manure while protecting water and soil resources.

Nebraska Extension plans to host seven workshops across the state during February and March. These sessions provide producers with the opportunity to learn best practices for land application, nutrient management, and environmental protection. Participants will gain practical knowledge that supports better decision-making and long-term farm sustainability.

The training highlights how proper manure applications can reduce nutrient loss, prevent runoff, and support healthier crop growth. By understanding application timing, rates, and soil conditions, producers can maximize benefits while minimizing environmental risks.

The workshops are led by extension educators and industry professionals who provide research-based guidance and real-world examples. Participants also have the chance to ask questions, share experiences, and connect with others working in agriculture.

For additional information, interested individuals can contact Leslie Johnson or visit the Nebraska Extension website for registration details. Overall, the Land Application Training program supports producers by providing practical education that helps improve farm efficiency, soil health, and responsible nutrient management practices across Nebraska agriculture.
