Hankinson FFA hosts successful cornhole tournament

By Scout Nelson

The Hankinson FFA Chapter, established just last year, recently hosted a meaningful event aimed at supporting the local farming community: a cornhole tournament benefiting Farm Rescue. This event took place on September 7 at Rub Me Tender in Hankinson, North Dakota.

Cohl Ringler, the Hankinson FFA Advisor, expressed satisfaction with the outcome. “The tournament went great. We had a good number of teams and raised just under $300.” Although the amount raised may not seem vast, it will significantly assist farmers who are facing major challenges due to illnesses, injuries, or natural disasters. Farm Rescue plays a crucial role in providing the necessary equipment and resources to these individuals in need.

Ringler explained the reasoning behind the fundraiser, stating, “We chose this fundraiser to support a major source of security and safety for our farming community.” The event saw an increase in interest, beginning with just two teams signed up but ultimately attracting 12 teams to participate.

Participants enjoyed competing for Farm Rescue and Hankinson FFA apparel, with the first-place team receiving a $200 prize. Shylin Mednwaldt, the Hankinson FFA Historian, noted, “I think everyone had a lot of fun!”

While the turnout did not meet initial expectations, the event marked a promising start for the newly established chapter. Hankinson FFA President Kenadi David remarked, “Despite the initial low numbers, we had a great turnout for our first event.”

This cornhole tournament not only fostered community spirit but also highlighted the importance of supporting local farmers through initiatives like Farm Rescue.

As the Hankinson FFA Chapter continues to grow, events like this will be essential in strengthening ties within the agricultural community and providing much-needed assistance to those in distress.
