Honors college takes shape at MSU

Michigan State University (MSU) is dedicated to fostering a better future through various campus improvements, including planting trees, constructing advanced facilities, and promoting inclusivity. Notable projects include:

Plant Science Greenhouses

• Age: Nearly 70 years old
• Improvements: Renovations will feature advanced environmental controls and energy-efficient LED lighting, along with a new headhouse for research and administration.
• Significance: Serves 70 faculty and 600 students, vital for research and teaching in agriculture and natural resources.

Campbell Hall

• Established: Opened in 1939
• Renovation Goals: Enhance safety and accessibility, improve community spaces, and preserve historic character.
• New Role: Will become the first dedicated residence hall for the MSU Honors College, accommodating 300 honors students.

MSU Museum

• Renovation Timeline: Expected to reopen in late 2025
• Upgrades: Includes climate control systems and accessibility enhancements, plus new spaces for immersive experiences.
• Vision: To serve as a center for education, innovation, and inspiration for the community.

Dairy Cattle Teaching and Research Center

• Funding: $30 million from the state of Michigan
• Capacity Increase: Will expand the herd size by 430 cattle and modernize facilities for student instruction and research.
• Industry Impact: Supports Michigan’s dairy sector, generating $24 billion annually and employing over 110,000 people.

Farm Lane Bridge

• Completion: Renovated and opened in mid-August after 16 months of construction.

Henry Ford Health + MSU Health Sciences Research Center

• Location: Detroit’s New Center neighborhood
• Size: MSU’s largest research facility, accommodating over 150 researchers.
• Focus Areas: Cancer, neuroscience, immunology, and public health, with dedicated space for neurofibromatosis research.
