Illinois took center stage this October as the first-ever Illinois Grown Pumpkin Weigh Off was held during the Illinois Product Fall Market at the State Fairgrounds in Springfield.

Known as the nation’s leading producer of pumpkins, the state celebrated its farming heritage through this friendly competition that brought together growers, families, and visitors.

The event took place at The Shed on the Illinois State Fairgrounds, 801 East Sangamon Avenue, Springfield. The Fall Market opened its doors from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with registration for the weigh off beginning at 9 a.m.

The main competition ran from 10 a.m. to noon, drawing an excited crowd eager to see who had grown the largest pumpkin in Illinois.

Pumpkin growers competed in three categories: the Illinois Grown Open Class, a Youth Division for growers up to age 14, and a category for FFA and 4-H members.

Each participant proudly showcased their harvest, reflecting both the skill and dedication that go into pumpkin farming.

Beyond the competition, the Illinois Product Fall Market offered a full day of family fun. Visitors enjoyed delicious food from local food trucks, live music, and plenty of free activities, including face painting, balloon artistry, and pumpkin decorating.

The event highlighted not only the importance of Illinois’ pumpkin industry but also the sense of community and celebration surrounding local agriculture.

It was a perfect blend of competition and festivity, reminding everyone that behind every giant pumpkin is a grower’s hard work and passion for farming.

The Illinois Grown Pumpkin Weigh Off truly celebrated the spirit of local agriculture, bringing farmers and families together to enjoy the harvest season in full swing.
