Indiana cattle producers favor House Farm Bill over Senate Version

Recent Farm Bill frameworks unveiled by House Ag Republicans and Senate Ag Democrats have highlighted a growing partisan divide in Washington, D.C., particularly concerning agriculture policies. Indiana Beef Cattle Association President Kelley Sheiss has voiced strong support for the House version of the bill, citing its favorable stance towards Indiana agriculture and cattle producers.

During a recent visit to Washington, D.C., Sheiss emphasized the importance of the House Farm Bill, especially in comparison to the Senate's approach, which she views as overly focused on greenhouse gas emissions and less supportive of cattle producers.

Key priorities discussed during the visit included conservation programs, crop insurance, and EQIP (Environmental Quality Incentives Program). Sheiss stressed the significance of these programs, noting that they are essential for Indiana's agricultural community. However, she emphasized the importance of keeping conservation practices voluntary and incentive-based, rather than mandatory.

While Indiana cattle producers value conservation efforts, they prefer policies that uphold their voluntary nature. The Indiana Beef Cattle Association aims to ensure that the Farm Bill supports agriculture-friendly initiatives while maintaining the voluntary nature of conservation practices.
