The International Programs in Agriculture (IPIA) continues its long-standing tradition of hosting thought‑provoking seminars that highlight global agricultural challenges and international development work.
Three times each semester, the International Agriculture Seminar Series brings together campus and community members to learn from experts who are actively engaged in international projects. These seminars provide opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to connect, share ideas, and gain insight into important global issues.
Coffee and dessert are provided at each session, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch. Individuals can also sign up to receive seminar announcements and updates throughout the semester.
The next seminar will feature Katy Dix, a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources. She will present her work on wildfire management in Monteverde, Bolivia, focusing on the strategies used to protect natural ecosystems and support local communities affected by fire-related challenges.
Her presentation will highlight the environmental and social impacts of wildfires, the importance of community involvement in fire prevention, and the need for sustainable land‑management practices.
The seminar will take place on March 5, 2026, at 12 p.m. EST. The event will be held in WSLR 116, making it convenient for members of the university community to attend in person. As part of the International Agriculture Seminar Series, participants will have a chance to ask questions, explore the topic in greater depth, and engage with others who share an interest in global environmental issues.
This seminar is a meaningful opportunity for those studying agriculture, natural resources, international development, or environmental science. Wildfire management is an increasingly important topic worldwide, and learning from real on-the-ground experiences helps future professionals and researchers understand both the challenges and solutions involved.
By attending the seminar, participants will gain knowledge about the unique landscape of Monteverde, the role of forestry practices in reducing fire risks, and the importance of international collaboration in addressing global environmental concerns.
The IPIA seminar series continues to serve as a platform for strengthening global awareness on campus and encouraging meaningful conversations about international agricultural and environmental issues.
