Iowa Corn Program Builds Next Generation of Ag Leaders

Iowa Corn Program Builds Next Generation of Ag Leaders

By Andi Anderson

Agriculture is an ever-changing field, with new challenges and opportunities emerging each season. Recognizing the importance of continuous learning, the Iowa Corn Promotion Board (ICPB) has reaffirmed its commitment to leadership development through its Iowa Corn Leadership Enhancement and Development (I-LEAD) Program.

The newly announced Class 12 participants mark another step toward shaping Iowa’s agricultural future.

I-LEAD was created to unite emerging leaders who want to strengthen Iowa’s rural communities and the profitability of agriculture across the state. Many program graduates have become influential advocates for Iowa Corn and the broader agricultural industry.

As a graduate of I-LEAD Class 10 noted, the program offers invaluable experience and connections that open doors to new opportunities in agriculture.

This two-year program focuses on building participants’ communication, leadership, and policy-making skills. Members gain hands-on experience through both domestic and international learning missions, where they explore agricultural trade, policy, and innovation. Participants also attend leadership workshops and policy sessions designed to enhance their understanding of the entire agricultural supply chain.

As active members of the Iowa Corn Growers Association (ICGA), I-LEAD participants visit the Iowa State Capitol and Washington, D.C., during Corn Congress to advocate for the issues that affect corn growers and rural communities.

These experiences provide firsthand insight into how agricultural policy is shaped and how advocacy can strengthen the industry’s voice.

Graduates are recognized during the Iowa Corn Annual Grassroots Summit, celebrating their growth as agricultural leaders. Each class brings together diverse perspectives and experiences, enriching the program’s impact.

Through I-LEAD, the Iowa Corn Promotion Board continues to invest in future leaders who will guide Iowa’s agriculture forward, ensuring its strength, sustainability, and innovation for years to come.
