Iowa Farm Family Honored for Conservation Care

Iowa Farm Family Honored for Conservation Care

By Andi Anderson

A farm family from Iowa has received a prestigious award for their outstanding work in agriculture, conservation, and community service. The honor was presented during a major agricultural event that celebrates achievements in livestock farming and rural leadership.

The family operates a mixed farming system, growing crops such as corn and soybeans while also raising livestock. Their farming operations are built on strong family values and teamwork. Along with managing their farm activities, they are also involved in partnerships that help expand their livestock operations. Their children are actively engaged in small farming tasks, showing the importance of passing agricultural traditions to future generations.

The recognition highlights not only their farming success but also their commitment to environmental protection. They follow advanced conservation practices such as no till and strip till farming. These methods help protect soil health and reduce erosion. They also use precision technology to apply fertilizers efficiently, ensuring better crop growth while minimizing environmental impact. Cover crops are planted across most of their land, improving soil quality and water absorption.

Their efforts go beyond their own farm. They support other farmers by helping them plant cover crops, encouraging wider use of sustainable practices. Their dedication to conservation earned them previous recognition, showing their continuous contribution to environmental improvement.

Animal care is another important part of their work. They use modern tools to monitor livestock health and maintain proper care standards. Industry guidelines are followed to ensure animals are raised in a safe and healthy environment.

A senior agriculture official praised their efforts, stating, “Nathan and Jacklyn have earned the respect of their neighbors through their dedication to their family, their farm and their community,” said Secretary Naig. “They are thoughtful stewards of the land, committed caretakers of their livestock and leaders who willingly share their time and talents with others. Their operation reflects a strong belief that agriculture can be both productive and sustainable, and their example helps strengthen Iowa agriculture for future generations. I am pleased to recognize the Nieuwendorp family with the Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award.”

In addition to farming, the family actively participates in local community and church activities. Their leadership roles and volunteer work reflect a strong sense of responsibility and service.
