Iowa State Releases Real Impact 2024 Report

Iowa State Releases Real Impact 2024 Report

By Andi Anderson

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach has released its Real Impact 2024 Report, showcasing significant contributions to Iowa’s economy, agriculture, childcare, and STEM education.

In Ottumwa, ISU Extension provided strategic planning guidance for a $3 million business façade and streetscape project. The initiative also led to the creation of over 100 affordable apartments and a $60 million investment in new and upgraded educational facilities.

More than 100 farms and food businesses have received direct technical assistance from ISU’s Farm, Food, and Enterprise Development program. This support helps small businesses expand at their own pace, boosting infrastructure, employment, and overall economic growth.

ISU Extension plays a vital role in childcare workforce development, issuing over 100,000 professional certificates annually through online courses. These certifications improve childcare quality while enhancing recruitment and retention in the industry.

The Plant the Moon Challenge, a STEM initiative by Iowa 4-H and NASA Iowa Space Grant Consortium, has been selected for the 2025-2026 Iowa STEM Scale-Up Program.

Iowa 4-H also engaged youth in 20,000 STEM learning experiences throughout 2023-2024, connecting education with real-world applications.

Iowa State University’s ongoing efforts continue to create a lasting impact on the state’s communities, economy, and future workforce.
