Iowa's wine industry is seeing steady growth, according to the 2024 Iowa Native Wine Production and Sale Report released by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. The report highlights production and sales trends of wine, cider, and mead by licensed Iowa manufacturers.
Key findings show that Iowa is home to 108 licensed producers and reached a total output of 262,793 gallons in 2024. Sales volume slightly exceeded production at 263,533 gallons, signaling healthy demand for local beverages. Data was collected from Iowa Department of Revenue records.
Another exciting development this summer is the Agrivoltaics Open House series at the Alliant Energy Solar Farm in Ames.
These events, hosted in collaboration with Iowa State University, aim to show how solar energy and agriculture can work together. Visitors can explore farming practices that involve growing vegetables, grapes, and even raising honeybees beneath solar panels.
The open houses are free but require online pre-registration. Scheduled dates include July 12, July 25, August 23, September 12, and September 27, with morning and evening options to accommodate visitors.
Finally, Iowa’s wine community is preparing for a celebration at the 2025 Iowa State Fair. Results from the Iowa State Fair Wine Competition, held in June, will be announced soon.
Attendees of the Iowa Wine Experience (August 7–17) will get to taste many award-winning wines inside Grandfather’s Barn, offering a perfect way to celebrate the state’s rich wine tradition.
