Kansas Board Gets New Appointments

Kansas Board Gets New Appointments

By Scout Nelson

Governor Laura Kelly has made several new appointments to state boards, councils, commissions, and committees. Among these recent decisions, five appointments were made to the Kansas Animal Health Board. These selections will help support the work of the Kansas Department of Agriculture and strengthen animal health leadership in the state.

Kevin Schultz of Haviland was newly appointed to the Kansas Animal Health Board. Along with this new appointment, four current members were reappointed to continue their service. Brandon Depenbusch of Great Bend, Ryan Arndt of Emporia, Wade Taylor of Oakley, and Melissa Hildebrand-Reed of Abilene remain on the board. Their continued service brings experience and stability to this important advisory group.

The Kansas Animal Health Board includes nine members in total. These members serve in an advisory role and work with the animal health commissioner. Their main responsibility is to assist in developing policies and plans related to animal health matters in Kansas. The board helps the commissioner make informed decisions that can protect livestock, support producers, and promote public confidence in the agriculture sector.

Animal health is an important part of agriculture in Kansas. Healthy animals support food production, farm income, and rural economies. Boards like this help ensure that experts and industry representatives take part in important discussions about disease prevention, regulation, and long-term planning.

By appointing both new and returning members, the governor is helping maintain a balance of fresh ideas and experienced leadership. Each appointee brings local knowledge and practical understanding that can support the state’s animal health system.

These appointments also show the importance of advisory groups in state government. While the board does not create laws, it plays an important part in guiding the work of agriculture officials. The group offers recommendations and advice that can shape future priorities for animal care and health management in Kansas.

The updated board continues assisting the Kansas Department of Agriculture Division of Animal Health as it addresses current and future needs across the livestock industry.
