Livestock Leaders Meet at K State

By Scout Nelson

Kansas State University will conduct Cattlemen's Day on March 6 at the new Bilbrey Family Event Center in Manhattan. The annual event will bring together cattle producers, industry leaders, and students for a day of education and discussion focused on the future of the cattle industry.

Registration will cost $25 if completed by February 20. Those who register at the venue will pay $35. Organizers expect strong attendance as the event will provide timely information for cattle operations of all sizes.

The agenda will include several important topics. Experts will discuss how genetic tools can be used to improve the next generation of livestock. Presenters will also explain how cow size and heavier carcass weights affect cowherd management and feedlot performance. Attendees will learn strategies for navigating farm and ranch transitions, which remain an important issue for many families.

In addition, specialists will provide updates on animal health concerns, including New World screwworm and the Asian longhorned tick. A cattle market outlook will also be presented to help producers prepare for future price trends and economic conditions.

The Legacy Sale will begin at 4:00 p.m. that afternoon at the Stanley Stout Center. Participants will have the opportunity to view sale offerings and take part in the event. More information and registration details will be available at https://www.asi.k-state.edu/events/.

The evening before Cattlemen's Day, a special dinner will recognize the Stockman of the Year. The event will take place at the Stanley Stout Center beginning at 6:00 p.m. Tickets will cost $50 per person, and the registration deadline will be February 19.

Cattlemen's Day will serve as an important opportunity for learning, networking, and recognizing excellence within the cattle industry.
