Manure applicator training scheduled to ensure certification compliance

Manure applicator training scheduled to ensure certification compliance

By Andi Anderson

Commercial manure applicators in Iowa can attend mandatory training sessions to meet certification requirements by March 1, 2025.

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, in partnership with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR), is offering workshops and video-based training.

The primary training will take place on January 9, 2025, from 9 a.m. to noon at 71 Iowa locations, with additional sessions from 1 to 4 p.m. at 24 of these locations.

The video-based workshops are free, but pre-registration is required by January 2, 2025. Walk-ins will not be allowed.

Live Workshops Available

Eight live workshops will also be conducted across Iowa. These sessions combine Confinement Site Manure Applicator training with the Commercial Manure Applicator certification. Attendees will need three hours to complete the certification. Locations and dates include:

Johnson County, Jan. 16, Iowa City

Kossuth County, Jan. 21, Algona

Davis County, Jan. 27, Bloomfield

Clay County, Jan. 28, Spencer

Wayne County, Jan. 30, Corydon

Osceola County, Feb. 12, Ocheyedan

Ida County, Feb. 20, Holstein

Boone County, Feb. 24, Boone

Certified applicators must complete three hours of training annually. Those who cannot attend the scheduled programs can arrange to watch training videos at an ISU Extension office. A $10 fee applies for unscheduled viewings.

An online certification option is also available via the DNR MAC Workday platform. Applicators can sign in, create an account, and complete the training online.

Additional dry/solid manure workshops will be offered in February 2025, focusing on specialized issues. Visit the Iowa Manure Management Action Group website for more details. Ensure certification by completing training and submitting forms before the March 1 deadline.
