Michigan Grape Spring Kickoff Meeting Set to Begin New Growing Season

Michigan Grape Spring Kickoff Meeting Set to Begin New Growing Season

By Andi Anderson

Michigan State University Extension has announced the 2026 Michigan Grape Spring Kickoff Meeting, scheduled for April 16. The annual event helps grape growers reconnect after winter, learn about new research, and prepare their vineyards for the upcoming growing season.

The meeting will be presented in collaboration with Parallel 45, offering a blend of academic insights, industry expertise, and practical grower knowledge.

Participants may choose between virtual attendance or joining the event in person at the Northwest Michigan Horticulture Research Center in Traverse City.

The program is structured to offer useful, timely information that grape producers can apply directly to vineyard operations.

This year’s agenda includes research updates and applied learning sessions. Topics will cover vineyard floor management, biofungicide advancements, sprayer technology, and new innovations such as AI-based disease detection tools.

Attendees will also learn about a new Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education integrated pest management project, with opportunities to share their perspectives and ask questions.

The event schedule includes coffee breaks, discussions with fellow growers, a catered lunch, and a relaxed social hour at the end of the day. In‑person participants are welcome to bring a bottle of wine to share during the social session. Those attending on-site will also earn three restricted use pesticide credits, offering added value to growers managing pesticide education requirements.

Registration is required for all attendees. Virtual participants may register through the online link provided, while details for in-person registration will be announced soon. Both options allow growers to take part in the day’s discussions and learn from experts in grape production and vineyard management.

The spring kickoff meeting is designed to bring practical information, meaningful conversations, and support to grape growers preparing for the new season. With opportunities to learn, share experiences, and explore emerging technologies, the event provides a strong foundation for a productive year in Michigan vineyards.

Organizers look forward to welcoming participants and starting the season on a positive note.
