Minnesota Student Earns National Soy Scholarship

Minnesota Student Earns National Soy Scholarship

By Scout Nelson

Luke McCrea of Faribault, Minnesota, has been selected as the recipient of the 2026-2027 Soy Scholarship sponsored by the American Soybean Association and BASF. The scholarship recognizes students who demonstrate strong academic achievement, leadership skills, and dedication to agriculture.

The ASA/BASF Soy Scholarship provides a $7,000 award to an outstanding high school senior planning to continue studies in an agriculture-related field at an accredited college or university. The program is open to children and grandchildren of ASA members and supports future agricultural leaders across the country.

“ASA is proud to partner with BASF in supporting initiatives that equip and inspire the next generation of agricultural leaders,” said Scott Metzger. “By investing in promising individuals like Luke, we are helping cultivate a strong, innovative future for agriculture.”

Luke plans to attend Iowa State University this fall, where he will pursue a degree in agriculture communications. During high school, he actively participated in both 4-H and Future Farmers of America programs.

He served as president of his local FFA chapter and helped expand student involvement within the organization. Luke also worked as a regional officer and president, helping organize leadership conferences that encouraged students to build agricultural and leadership skills.

Beyond academics and agriculture activities, Luke has remained active in community service and civic programs. He participated in the American Legion Minnesota Boys State program, which teaches students about government and leadership through hands-on learning experiences. He also volunteers regularly in his school and local community.

“BASF is committed to investing in students who will help shape the future of agriculture,” said Scott Kay. “We’re proud to partner with the American Soybean Association to offer the 2026 Soy Scholarship, supporting passionate students like Luke who are dedicated to advancing one of the world’s most essential industries.”
