NDSU Weed Workshop Supports Crop Management

NDSU Weed Workshop Supports Crop Management

By Scout Nelson

NDSU Extension is set to host the 28th annual Wild World of Weeds Workshop on January 20. The long-running educational event continues to support farmers, crop advisors, and agriculture professionals by sharing practical and research-based information on weed management.

The Wild World of Weeds Workshop focuses on helping participants better understand weed challenges that affect crop production. Weeds remain a major concern for agriculture operations because they compete with crops for nutrients, water, and sunlight. Managing them effectively plays an important role in protecting yields and farm profitability.

Through this annual workshop, NDSU Extension provides updated guidance based on current research and field experience. The program is designed to help attendees improve their decision making when managing weeds across different cropping systems. Topics commonly address weed identification, control methods, resistance concerns, and integrated management strategies.

The workshop also creates a space for learning and discussion. Participants gain the chance to hear from extension specialists and industry experts who share practical knowledge that can be applied directly in the field. This approach helps connect science with real world farming needs.

NDSU Extension has offered the Wild World of Weeds Workshop for nearly three decades. Its continued success reflects the ongoing need for clear and reliable weed management education. Each year, the program adapts to new challenges faced by agriculture, including changing weather patterns, evolving weed species, and new management tools.

The January 20 event continues this tradition by providing timely education before the growing season begins. Early learning allows producers and advisors to plan ahead and choose strategies that best fit their operations.
