NDSU Williston Field Day Shares Farm Research Updates

NDSU Williston Field Day Shares Farm Research Updates

By Scout Nelson

North Dakota State University’s Williston Research Extension Center is hosting its annual field day on July 10, 2026, near Williston, North Dakota. The free educational event welcomes farmers, ranchers, horticulture professionals, and anyone interested in learning about agricultural research and improvements.

The field day provides an opportunity for attendees to explore current research projects and learn from agriculture experts. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m., followed by dryland and horticulture tours starting at 9 a.m. A light breakfast is available before the tours, and lunch is provided at noon after the sessions.

“Whether you're a producer, gardener or simply interested in learning more, there's something for everyone,” says Tyler Tjelde, director of NDSU’s Williston Research Extension Center.

The dryland tour focuses on important crop production topics, including weed management, soil health, and plant diseases. Some sessions highlight hard red spring wheat production and kochia management, helping producers better understand challenges affecting crop performance.

The horticulture tour features presentations from agriculture specialists, including Tom Kalb, NDSU horticulturist in the Department of Plant Sciences, Andrew Kuester from Handy Andy’s Nursery, and Rojee Chipalu Pradhan, horticulture research specialist at the Williston Research Extension Center.

Additional sessions after lunch provide information from the NDSU Soil Health Express Trailer, Williams County Soil Conservation District, NDSU Research Specialist Supervisor Edson Ncube, and NDSU Extension integrated pest management scouts. These discussions help participants learn about soil improvement, conservation practices, and pest management strategies.

The Williston Research Extension Center Field Day allows producers and community members to connect with researchers, explore new agricultural practices, and gain useful information for farm and garden management.

The event takes place at the Williston Research Extension Center, located 4.5 miles west of Williston on U.S. Highway 2. Registration and additional details are available through the NDSU Extension website.
