The 2025 Lake Region Extension Roundup will take place on January 8-9 at the Memorial Building in Devils Lake, North Dakota. This annual event, hosted by North Dakota University Extension County offices, provides a valuable opportunity for area farmers, ranchers, and gardeners to gain the most up-to-date agricultural production information for the upcoming growing season.
“A tradition of 45 years, the Lake Region Extension Roundup provides area farmers, ranchers, and gardeners with the most up-to-date information to prepare for the upcoming growing season,” says Lindsay Overmyer, NDSU Extension agent in Ramsey County. “It is where lake region producers come together to network with Extension, industry, and their neighbors.”
Both days will begin with a complimentary breakfast at 8 a.m., followed by general and concurrent sessions starting at 9 a.m. The keynote sessions will take place in the gymnasium of the World War II Memorial Building. Concurrent sessions will be held in various rooms within the Memorial Building and the adjoining Ramsey County Courthouse.
Keynote topics for Wednesday, January 9, will include the soils of the Devils Lake Basin, a crop consultant panel, and an outlook on the 2025 crop market. Concurrent sessions will cover topics such as small grain varieties, soil fertility, farmland and equipment market trends, and more. There will also be roundtable discussions on topics like weedy points to ponder and the future of livestock industries.
On Thursday, January 9, Rob Sharkey, known as The Shark Farmer, will share his story, followed by Emily Sharkey, who will discuss her transition from homeschooling to becoming a TV producer. Keynote topics for Thursday include weather outlooks and sprayer technologies, while concurrent sessions will cover farm succession planning, dry bean production, and more.
