New Grant Boosts Emergency Services in Gowrie

New Grant Boosts Emergency Services in Gowrie

By Andi Anderson

The Southwest Webster Ambulance Service in Gowrie is set to improve its operations with a $300,000 grant from the Department of Agriculture. This funding will help address long-standing space limitations that have affected the service for over 15 years.

“When I started 30 years ago, all of our supplies were in the bay with the ambulance, but now very little of them are because there’s no room,” said EMT Terry Towne. Over time, the service had to shift most of its equipment into their meeting room, leaving limited space for their two ambulances. The problem is expected to worsen as newer ambulances are designed to be larger and wider, making storage even more difficult.

To help resolve these challenges, Senator Chuck Grassley announced that Gowrie will receive $2.3 million in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Grant Program. This investment, which benefits five different communities, will allow for the construction of a modern ambulance facility to accommodate growing demands.

The new facility is expected to enhance emergency response capabilities, ensuring that rural communities have the necessary resources to handle medical emergencies efficiently. The grant represents a significant step toward improving emergency services in the area.

For organizations seeking funding opportunities, grants programs can provide valuable resources. Various state-specific services offer guidance on securing financial assistance for community projects.
