North Dakota Offers Beef Quality Assurance Training

North Dakota Offers Beef Quality Assurance Training

By Scout Nelson

The Beef Quality Assurance program in North Dakota provides cattle producers with practical training to improve daily management practices and support healthy, productive, and sustainable operations. The program focuses on responsible cattle care while helping farms remain profitable and trusted by consumers.

The upcoming Beef Quality Assurance session takes place on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Central Standard Time. The event is held at the Ramsey County Courthouse, Basement Meeting Room, located at 524 4th Avenue NE in Devils Lake, North Dakota. The registration cost for the program is $20.

The Beef Quality Assurance program is designed to help producers apply common sense husbandry practices supported by science-based research. These techniques help cattle remain healthy, improve productivity, and reduce risk throughout the production process. The program also provides clear guidelines that help maintain consumer confidence in beef products.

Topics covered during the session include proper cattle handling, health management, and decision making that supports animal wellbeing. The training highlights how daily management choices impact both cattle performance and long-term farm success.

The program is led by experienced educators from North Dakota State University Extension. Presenters include Lisa Pederson, Extension Livestock Specialist, Lacey Quail, Extension Livestock Management Specialist, and Rachel Gibbs, Extension Ruminant Systems Management Specialist. Additional presenters may also support the program depending on location.

The Beef Quality Assurance program benefits producers of all experience levels. New producers gain a strong foundation in cattle care, while experienced producers receive updated information that aligns with current science and industry expectations.

The program also supports long term sustainability by encouraging practices that protect animal health, food safety, and farm reputation. By following Beef Quality Assurance principles, producers can strengthen relationships with buyers, consumers, and industry partners.

Requests for disability-related accommodations should be made to the event of contact at least two weeks before the event. For more information, producers may contact Lindsay Overmyer at lindsay.overmyer@ndsu.edu or call 701-662-7027.
