Purdue Extension Hosts Market Ready Training May 1

By Andi Anderson

Purdue Extension is offering its Market Ready training on May 1, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to support local food producers seeking to enter wholesale markets. This program provides essential skills for successful expansion into larger sales channels.

Held at the Purdue Extension – Allen County office, the session will help farmers and producers learn about product quality, food safety, insurance, and risk management—all key areas for wholesale readiness. The event will also feature a buyer panel, providing real-world advice and expectations from wholesale buyers.

“Market Ready equips local food producers with the knowledge and confidence to take their business to the next level,” said Sarah Hanson, Purdue’s food systems coordinator. “This training helps ensure they are prepared to meet the demands of buyers while maintaining the quality of their products.”

The training fee is $75 per person and includes lunch. Registration is open until noon on April 22, and participants are encouraged to register early. The program is open to all, but those under 18 must attend with a parent or guardian.

Participants who need accommodations, translators, or have dietary restrictions should contact Hanson at 765-543-1230 or sspeedy@purdue.edu by April 23.

This is one of several Market Ready trainings Purdue Extension plans to offer throughout Indiana. Those interested in future sessions can fill out an interest survey at puext.in/MarketReady.
