Rock Island County fair 4-H livestock auction draws packed crowd

The Rock Island County Fair 4-H Livestock Auction, held on Friday, was a significant event, drawing a packed crowd eager to support young farmers.

A total of 46 4-H members auctioned their animals, bringing in an impressive $29,350 from local businesses and families who participated as bidders.

Among the highlights, Macy Hoag's grand champion steer sold for $800 to Kalona Sales Barn. Henry Edwards’ grand champion Whether Goat was auctioned for $350 and was purchased by State Representative Dan Swanson.

Shay Brinson’s grand champion Dairy Goat fetched $300 and went to Hoag Diesel Repair. Keeghan Bohnsack's grand champion sheep achieved a notable $1025, purchased by Fairview Sale Barn. Olivia Freyermuth’s grand champion market barrow was the highest seller, going for $1500 to Nutrien Ag Solutions.

In the dairy division, Cassie Bohnert’s grand champion brought in $2000, sponsored by Compeer Financial, Ahlem Farms, and Vita Plus. The grand champion in the poultry division, Baily Callahan, saw her champion go for $400, purchased by Aledo Vet Clinic, Charlie’s Tax Service, and County Line Ag.

The auction provided an excellent opportunity for local businesses and families to support the 4-H community, highlighting the dedication and hard work of the young participants. The funds raised will help these young farmers continue their agricultural projects and education.
