The South Dakota Swine Summit is set to take place on Thursday, June 12, 2025, offering a full day of learning for youth ages 12 to 21 who are interested in the swine industry. The event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. across various locations on the campus of South Dakota State University (SDSU).
Participants will have the opportunity to tour the SDSU Swine Education and Research Facility, a leading-edge space dedicated to swine science. The event also features interactive and educational sessions on vital topics including biosecurity, animal nutrition, evaluation, daily care, and showmanship. Additional sessions will focus on carcass evaluation and swine anatomy, offering a comprehensive overview of the swine production process.
This summit is ideal for students and young adults seeking careers or knowledge in agriculture, animal science, or veterinary fields. Through hands-on experiences and expert-led learning, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the roles and responsibilities in modern swine care and production.
Although the event is free, registration is mandatory and must be completed by June 7, 2025. This ensures all participants are prepared and space is allocated efficiently.
For more information or to register, participants are encouraged to contact SDSU’s Assistant Professor and Extension Swine Specialist. As stated, “South Dakota Swine Summit is a program for youth ages 12-21 interested in learning more about the swine industry.”
This event reflects SDSU’s commitment to agricultural education and workforce development by encouraging the next generation to explore careers in the swine sector through engaging, real-world learning experiences.
