Steffes of North Dakota launches in Canada

By Scout Nelson

Steffes Group Canada ULC has officially announced the acquisition of Bruce Schapansky Auctioneers Inc., a well-established business located in Tisdale, Saskatchewan. Steffes, which began operations in North Dakota in 1960, is a prominent name in the U.S. auction industry and is now expanding its services into Canada.

This acquisition marks Steffes' tenth location, with Tisdale becoming a key hub for the company's Canadian operations.

Bruce Schapansky, founder of the Saskatchewan-based auctioneers, expressed his enthusiasm for the new partnership. “Joining Steffes Auctioneers provides us with tools and resources to better serve our customers,” Schapansky said.

“After meeting the folks at Steffes and talking with their staff and customers, it became apparent that ‘The Steffes Way’ is built on the very same foundations that our business is built on. It is not every day that you find two companies so alike in so many ways. Knowing that Steffes started as a family business and continues to grow along with their family means a lot to us."

He also reassured his loyal customers that the acquisition will not affect his involvement, stating, “I’m not going anywhere! I’ll be focusing on sales and staying connected with our customers.”

Steffes has been a key player in agricultural auctions in the Midwest U.S. for over six decades. The company’s auction services now cover a wide range of industries, including farm equipment, construction, transportation, and real estate, with both live on-site and online auctions available.

Bruce Schapansky Auctioneers will maintain its operations in Tisdale but will rebrand under the Steffes name. Scott Steffes, President of Steffes Group, praised Schapansky for his strong reputation and dedication to customers. “Bruce has built a strong reputation in Saskatchewan with his seller-focused approach to auctioneering,” Steffes said.

"For his existing customers, the transition will be seamless, and we look forward to building upon what he started by delivering our comprehensive platform of auction experiences."

This new venture signifies Steffes' continued growth and expansion into the Canadian auction market.
