The Land Institute will host a Community Days event in Salina, Kansas, centered on wetland restoration and native prairie conservation. The hands-on program is designed to help community members learn about sustainable land stewardship while contributing to an ecological restoration project.
Scheduled for September 15, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Marty Bender Nature Area, the event will be led by Dr. Jennifer Moody, a plant ecologist overseeing the planting effort. Participants will learn about the differences between wetland and upland prairie habitats and help establish more than 30 native plant species across the site.
The evening will begin with a free meal provided by Prairieland Market, followed by an educational session where Dr. Moody will discuss the restoration project and its environmental significance. Attendees will then take part in community planting activities aimed at enhancing local biodiversity and habitat health.
Organized by The Land Institute, the event highlights the organization's ongoing commitment to ecological research, prairie restoration, and sustainable land-use practices. Community members of all ages and abilities are welcome to participate, with seating and restroom facilities available on-site.
Guests are encouraged to RSVP in advance to receive event updates and help organizers prepare for attendance. Event activities may be adjusted depending on weather conditions.
