Tri State Dairy Nutrition Field Day Brings Experts Together

Tri State Dairy Nutrition Field Day Brings Experts Together

By Andi Anderson

The 2026 Tri-State Dairy Nutrition Field Day will bring together dairy producers, agricultural professionals, researchers, and industry representatives for a day of learning and networking focused on dairy nutrition and crop management. The event is scheduled for November 10, 2026, in Hickory Corners, Michigan, and is organized through a partnership between Michigan State University, The Ohio State University, and Purdue University.

The educational program is designed to provide participants with practical information that can support dairy operations and improve farm productivity.

Registration and breakfast will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by educational sessions starting at 9:15 a.m. The event will conclude with an afternoon visit to Hickory Gables Dairy, giving attendees an opportunity to observe real-world farming practices and discuss management strategies.

Several experts will share information on topics important to modern dairy production. Dr. Brook Wilke, Michigan State University, will discuss minimal tillage and cover crop options in corn silage systems. These practices can help improve soil health, increase sustainability, and support forage production.

Dr. Dan Quinn, Purdue University, will provide an overview of current corn silage genetics options and discuss how hybrid selection can influence forage quality and dairy herd performance. Understanding available genetics can help producers make informed planting decisions and maximize feed value.

Participants will also hear from Dr. Erin Burns, Michigan State University, who will address weed management challenges in soybean production. Her presentation will focus on effective strategies for controlling weeds and protecting crop yield potential.

Another featured speaker, Dr. Alycia Bales, Caledonia Farmers Elevator, will discuss the processing of high-oleic soybeans and methods for maximizing their value while monitoring production quality. This topic highlights opportunities for improving feed and market outcomes through proper soybean management.

In addition to the presentations, attendees will participate in a panel discussion focused on making the most of manure and crop rotations to support dairy herd success. The session will explore practical approaches that can enhance soil fertility, improve crop performance, and contribute to efficient dairy nutrition programs.

The event registration fee is $80 and includes both breakfast and lunch. To improve accessibility, organizers are offering a complimentary bus service to and from the MSU Pavilion in Lansing. Interested participants can reserve a seat by contacting Trina VanAtta, the event coordinator.

Participation is limited to 100 attendees, allowing for a more interactive and engaging learning environment. The registration deadline is November 10, 2026, at 10:00 p.m.

The Tri-State Dairy Nutrition Field Day continues to serve as a valuable educational event for dairy producers seeking the latest research, practical solutions, and expert guidance. Through collaboration among leading universities and industry professionals, the program helps participants strengthen their knowledge and improve decision-making in dairy and crop production systems.
