The American Farm Bureau Federation, joined by over 500 other groups from various sectors, has issued a compelling call to Congress for the enactment of a new farm bill.
This diverse coalition, encompassing agriculture, nutrition, and conservation, among others, emphasizes the farm bill's broad impact on America’s food system, environmental stewardship, and rural economy.
Highlighting the urgent need for modernization, the coalition warns against the risks of temporary extensions which could lead to delays exacerbated by the upcoming presidential election and new congressional session.
The current economic challenges, including inflation and supply chain disruptions, further underscore the necessity for a timely and robust farm bill.
Zippy Duvall, President of the AFBF, stressed the unique consensus among typically divergent groups as a testament to the farm bill’s significance.
The united front presented by these organizations reflects a shared recognition of the farm bill as foundational to ensuring the continued availability of safe, affordable food and sustainable environmental practices.
The call to action is clear - swift, bipartisan cooperation is essential to address the needs of American families and the agricultural sector at large.
