U.S. ethanol exports reached a record 2.13 billion gallons during the 2024/25 marketing year, highlighting the growing international demand for American renewable fuels. Exports surpassed the previous record by 23% and have more than doubled over the past decade.
Canada remained the largest importer of U.S. ethanol, purchasing 758 million gallons during the year. Demand has been supported by policies encouraging the use of renewable and low-carbon fuels.
The Netherlands also contributed significantly to export growth, importing 282 million gallons. This represents a major increase compared to the volumes imported a decade ago.
The positive momentum has continued into the current marketing year. Ethanol exports from October through May were 11% higher than the same period a year earlier, raising the possibility of another record-setting year.
Growing export demand has provided valuable support for the U.S. ethanol industry at a time when domestic demand growth has slowed. Ethanol has remained one of the stronger-performing U.S. agricultural exports in global markets.
Major ethanol-producing states stand to benefit from this expansion. Nebraska, which accounts for about 14% of U.S. ethanol production, is among the states likely to see continued economic gains from stronger international demand.
